The Brick Companies/Atlantic Marinas took first place in the 2008 BIG Team Regatta in Annapolis, a fund-raiser for the NMHF Kids Set Sail youth sailing program. The regatta, founded 6 years ago by GEL and J World Annapolis, raised close to $62,000 which will fund program scholarships for over 425 children.

The Brick Companies, a long time participant, elected to have their boat crewed by students from the Kids Set Sail program. Imani Haskell, fourth grade, and Charlie Hughes, third grade, were joined by Mr. Bill Hughes (Charlie’s father) and Andy Mason from the YMCA of the National Capital Region (a program partner of NMHF.) The combination of youth and experience seemed to do the trick and brought victory to the boat.

In addition to The Brick Companies, 12 other boats competed in the five-race regatta representing Security Storage Company, Ross-Najam All State, Sailors for the Sea, DPR Construction, Northrop Grumman, Rand Construction, Madison Marquette, Office Depot Foundation, and four boats sponsored by the NMHF Board of Directors.

The teams provided some extremely competitive racing. Two-time defending champions Security Storage came in a close second, while DPR Construction, a second year team in the BIG Team Regatta, placed third.
