June 7th Taste of BoatWorks: An Afternoon of Sailing

Come out and experience a unique, highly experiential approach to leadership development and team work.

BoatWorks is an experiential leadership development program offered by Group Experiential Learning in port cities throughout the US and several international locations.  This customized program is used as an element of several High Potential Talent programs by companies including CVS/CAREMARK and Northrop Grumman for developing communication, collaboration and trust within intact teams.

BoatWorks leverages a non-racing, multi-sailboat format to get teams gelling as they battle the wind, the currents, their collective anxieties and a special group challenge, all under the watchful eyes of a professional coaching staff. The BoatWorks challenge is similar to an obstacle course, but individual boats can’t go it alone. Success requires extensive collaboration between sub-teams via hand-held radios.

ABSOLUTELY NO SAILING EXPERIENCE is required. Participant safety and the quality of your experience are our top priorities.

The complimentary June 7th BoatWorks program is limited to 24 participants. If you are interested in attending, please contact us at 888-GEL-TEAM or sign up via the registration form to the left.

Schedule

We need to start at 12:00 sharp to maximize time on the water. This program normally is a full day, so please help us by arriving by noon.

12:00-12:30PM Lunch, Introductions & Program Kick-off
12:30-1:00PM BoatWorks Briefing/Safety Orientation (ashore)
1:00-4:00PM Sailing Practice & BoatWorks Group Challenge
4:00-5:00PM Discussion and Refreshments

What to Expect

During an initial training session, team members will learn to drive, trim sails and communicate in order to get their boat moving fast and in the right direction. We will rotate through the positions; cross training and determining the crew configuration most likely to result in high fleet performance during the challenge.

After this practice, it's game on! All six boats will collaborate to sail like the Blue Angels as fast possible through the challenge course. We'll complete the day with a fun race back to the dock to see which four person crew has learned the most about teamwork and boat speed during the afternoon.

Location

In Chicago, our primary partner is the Chicago Match Race Center, offering BoatWorks, RaceWorks and other custom team building programs for up to 40 people on their fleet of Tom 28's. Chicago may be the friendliest city in the country, and CMRC's group of coaches includes sailors who compete at the highest level of the sport.
